Vahagn Chakhalyan, Board member of the United Javakhk bloc, is sure
the Abkhaz railway section can be re-operated.
"I am sure this railway section must be re-opened because it meets
Georgia's interests - not only in the economic, but also in the
political respect - because it will enable them to have more active
contacts with Abkhazia," he told Tert.am.
Turkey and Azerbaijan have serious economic influence on Georgia and
may press it into making decisions in their favor.
When a statement on Georgia's readiness for re-operation of the
Abkhazian railway section was made in Armenia, official Tbilisi
refuted it a few days later.
"Later we knew it was under Azerbaijan's pressure," Mr Chakhalyan said.
In private talks Georgian officials said that Georgia is ready to
re-operate the railways section, but the Abkhaz side objects. Talks
about re-operation of the railway section are more active now.
