By Ilkin Izzet - Trend:
Turkish media insufficiently covers the problem of Nagorno-Karabakh,
the president of the Turkish Federation of Journalists (TFJ) Atilla
Sertel said Oct.3, speaking at the IV Baku International Humanitarian
Forum.
He said that Turkey has carried out extensive work on the media
coverage of the Karabakh conflict and Khojaly genocide, but at an
insufficient level.
"Regarding the issue of Nagorno-Karabakh, the occupied territories
are Azerbaijani lands. The solution of this problem must be found,"
said Sertel.
Despite the fact that some 22 years have passed since the events in
Khojaly, this tragedy is not forgotten, he said.
The federation president also clarified the issue of Turkey's accession
to the coalition against the "Islamic state."
"The issue of Turkey's participation in military operations outside
the country is being discussed at the moment," he said. "And it
worries us."
"Not all journalists of the world can freely express their thoughts,"
said Sertel. "As the president of TFJ, I declare that journalistic
freedom means the freedom of the people. If journalists can not freely
express their thoughts, then the people will not be free, either."
