SEYRAN OHANYAN DETAILS HAKOB INJIGHULYAN'S CASE TO COE COMMISSIONER

Yerevan /Mediamax/. Armenian Defense Minister Seyran Ohanyan called
Council of Europe Commissioner for Human Rights Nils Muižnieks to
Azerbaijani authorities' brutal treatment to Armenian captives and
violation of their rights.
Receiving Nils Muižnieks and his delegation in Yerevan today,
Seyran Ohanyan detailed over the case of Hakob Injighulyan who
has recently returned to Armenia, the press service of the Armenian
Defense Ministry reports. The Minister noted that the actions against
Injighulyan indicate that the Azerbaijani authorities worked out a
special policy for captive military servicemen to send to a third
country through psychological pressures, tortures and deadly threats.
During the meeting, the Minister presented to the CoE Commissioner the
reforms in human rights protection field in Armenian Armed Forces,
touched upon the training and public awareness programs implemented
with the support of international organizations.
The Armenian Defense Minister also spoke about the efforts toward
reaching equality of number of women and men in Armed Forces, ensuring
of rights of women in military service, increasing in number of female
cadets and other works. He also touched upon effective cooperation
with the UN Population Fund in the field.
The Minister attached importance to the fact of separating the
investigative service from the Defense Ministry system with the
establishment of the Armenian Investigative Committee considering it
a necessary step for ending improper speculations.
In his turn, CoE Commissioner for Human Rights noted that he hails
the reforms being implemented in the fields and also expressed his
content over the progress in organization of the alternative service
after his last visit.
