PARLIAMENTARY OPPOSITION: REGIME WILL GIVE WAY AS IT IS WEAK AS NEVER BEFORE, WHILE THE OPPOSITION IS STRONG AS NEVER BEFORE

    by Tatevik Shahunyan

    Thursday, October 9, 12:51

The parliamentary opposition - Prosperous Armenia, Heritage and
Armenian National Congress (ANC) parties - rallied in the town
of Gyumri on Thursday. All the keynote speakers spotlighted "the
disastrous social-economic situation in the country" and came out
for power change. They said the process of power change in Armenia
will be launched at the October 10 rally in Yerevan.

In his speech, Vice Chairman of Heritage Party Armen Martirosyan said
the authorities will give way as they are weak and the opposition is
strong as never before. According to him, three powerful opposition
parties have united and will fight to the end to change power in the
country. Secretary of the Prosperous Armenia Party Naira Zohrabyanm,
in turn, harshly criticized the staff policy of the authorities,
which "take criminals from the garbage and appoint them to various
important positions to feel right at home."

Levon Zurabyan, Head of the ANC parliamentary faction, denied the views
that the opposition rally was scheduled for 10 October just because
Armenia's accession to the Eurasian Economic Union will be decided
on that very day. "What the opposition cares for at present is to
overthrow the regime and establish democracy in the country," he said.

At the end of the rally, MP from Prosperous Armenia Party Tigran
Urikhanyan said on 10 October in the morning the parliamentarians of
the three opposition parties will set up groups and together with
journalists and cameramen monitor the roads leading to the capital
city not to allow the authorities to block the roads like they usually
    do to prevent large-scale rallies.

The participants in the rally as usually chanted "Serzhik Leave!"
