After gatherings in provinces, on Friday the three forces opposed to
the current government are holding an "all-Armenian" rally in Yerevan
where all the three leaders are expected to be present.
At the joint rally of the Prosperous Armenia Party (PAP), Heritage
and the Armenian National Congress (ANC), according to their
representatives, there will be an inclusive agenda and a roadmap to
their future actions will be publicized.
"There will be reference to the constitutional changes and the 12
points of the Quartet. Besides, the PAP, ANC and Heritage leaders
will participate in the rally after which there will be a march along
Mashtots-Amiryan-Hanrapetutyan route," Heritage faction leader Ruben
Hakobyan told reporters on Thursday, adding that this is a process
toward government change.
According to Hakobyan, if the government is wise, they must realize
that their moves are not at all adequate to the current situation in
the country.
"The government was not wise, and if we see that it keeps on building
the "secure" Armenia, in the background we see that the government
is incapable of solving those problems. All political forces have
the question of change of government in their agenda," the MP said,
emphasizing that the October 10 rally will be the most crowded rally
in the last years.
Moreover, many were encouraged and surprised by what on Thursday
PAP leader Gagik Tsarukyan said at a joint press conference with the
president of the International Olympic Committee. He basically said
that if necessary, he was ready to run for president.
However, representatives of the ruling Republican Party of Armenia do
not seem to be very interested in the oppositional rally and calls. In
response to Tsarukyan's statement, Deputy Speaker of Parliament Eduard
Sharmazanov told the Zhoghovurd daily: "I do not comment on sentences
that start with an 'if'".
And ruling Republican Party MP Artak Davtyan on Thursday told reporters
that he did not expect anything "crucial" from that rally.
Hours before the rally, considering the experience from previous
rallies, when the opposition accused of authorities of blocking roads
leading to the capital, the opposition created groups that monitor
the situation along major interurban highways.
