TURKEY CAN NOT REMAIN IN NATO IF SHE DROPS KOBANE
BERNARD-HENRI LEVY
If Turkey leaves "fall of the Syrian city Kobane the hands of Daesh,
the question of membership in NATO will arise," said AFP on Sunday
the philosopher Bernard-Henri Levy.
The French intellectual wrote an article entitled "Last Call for
Kobane" which will be published Monday in the daily Liberation and
seven European and American titles.
"The position of Turkey in NATO would become problematic if it dropped
Kobane" considered Mr. Levy told AFP. "It must be said in the coming
hours to the Turkish authorities."
Jihadi organization Islamic state were Sunday sent reinforcements to
Kobane where Kurdish forces opposed their fierce resistance in this
city before the world became a symbol of the fight against EI.
Jihadists, more numerous, better armed, control about 40% of the city.
"The forces of progress Daesh hourly, from street to street. The
ultimate solution is either the intervention of the Turkish army as
part of its membership in NATO and / or pass the thousands of Kurdish
fighters stopped at the border as they are volunteers to defend the
city " , says Mr. Levy.
"But Turkey is not moving. She hides behind legal quibbles. She expects
the fall of the city. If Kobane tomb, the Turkish government should
be held directly responsible, "said the philosopher.
"Turkey is the eastern pillar of the Atlantic Alliance. It's the
moment of truth for its presence in NATO, "he says.
"We can not say that Daesh is a global threat and tolerate the military
alliance that is central to the response to Daesh be weakened in its
most crucial point of irresponsibility Erdogan," the Turkish president
says Bernard-Henri Levy. "I call on Turkey's allies in NATO to Erdogan
meet its responsibility."
"Kobane is a test for Turkey, for its European future and membership
in the Atlantic Alliance," he said. "I do not think she can stay
within the Atlantic Alliance if she drops Kobane" Has he said.
