ARMENIAN YOUTH ACTIVISTS CONDUCT ANTI-TOBACCO CAMPAIGN IN KARABAKH

    13:09 * 14.10.14

The Young Biologists' Association of Armenia has conducted a three-day
interactive anti-tobacco school in Shushi, Nagorno-Karabakh, to raise
the youth's awareness of the smoking hazards.

According to a press release by the Armenian Youth Foundation,
the campaign attracted around 70 young people from Armenia and the
    Nagorno-Karabakh (Artsakh) Republic.

It comprised theoretical trainings and practical workshops to introduce
the participants to the medical and scientific justifications of
banning tobacco, said the program's coordinator, Sargis Aghayan,
adding that they also addressed the psychological, financial and
    legislative aspects of the problem.

The winning participants, selected based on the results of an online
quiz and their activeness at debates, were awarded with valuable
    presents at the end.

The interactive school, entitled the Youth of Armenia and Artsakh
for anti-Smoking Campaign, was organized from 10 to 13 October.

Aghayan said that they selected Nagorno-Karabakh as a venue with the
special purpose of promoting a closer partnership between the youth
    of the two Armenian republics.

"We had young [participants] from not only Stepanakert and Shushi
but also the rural communities of Artsakh. There were proposals for
exchange programs. The Artsakh youth appeared very active and willing.

Several village mayors even proposed conducting events in their
    communities," he added.

The campaign was organized by the Youth Foundation as part of a partner
organization's grant program approved by the Armenian president.
