EEU MEMBERSHIP SOLE OPTION - ARMENIAN ECONOMIST
YEREVAN, October 17./ARKA/. There was no alternative to Armenia's
accession to the Eurasian Economic Union (EEU), Armenian economist
and head of "Alternative" research center Tatul Manaseryan said at
a discussion on Armenia's economic prospects in the EEU on Thursday.
EEU membership is picked as Armenia could not remain uninvolved in
the global processes, according to the economist.
Membership in the EEU is a serious challenge for Armenia, Manaseryan
said.
"We should take a global view of the world and diversify out external
links", he said.
The economist opposed both ultra-Western and ultra-Eastern supporters.
Armenia can benefit from cooperation with both the EEU and the EU,
he said.
It is important to realize what the advantages of EEU membership are
and what losses can be expected, according to the economist.
"It would be naïve to think we will have only benefits from the EEU
and will not experience negative effects. In reality, there are many
threats, and risks are high, but we should be optimistic and believe
everything will be ok", Manaseryan said.
The discussion on Armenia's economic prospects in the EEU was held
by the Union of Russian Armenians and the World Armenian Congress.
On October 10, Armenia joined the Eurasian Economic Union (EEU)
treaty that will come into effect on January 1, 2015. -0--
