Armenia's former national security chief may be called to court

    16:25, 18.10.2014

YEREVAN. -- The lawyers of an inmate who escaped from prison and was
seized in Georgia will petition to call former chief of Armenia's
National Security Council Artur Baghdasaryan to give evidence in the
    court.

The criminal case has been launched on the basis of a written petition
by Baghdasaryan, lawyer Hakob Charoyan told Armenian News-NEWS.am.
According to cover letter by Baghdasaryan, he had received a document
from the Iranian Embassy. On the basis of this document an
investigation was launched, and Suren Gabrielyan was arrested.

The lawyer will appeal the validity of this document, claiming that
there is no printed version, and it is unclear whether it was obtained
from the embassy. The lawyer also added that Artur Baghdasaryan has
    never been questioned during investigation.

Media interest in the prisoner Suren Gabrielyan arose after his escape
from the Nork Infectious Diseases Hospital. He was later caught in
Georgia, and Armenia is currently negotiating his extradition.
