NO NEED FOR EGG IMPORT - SERGEY STEPANYAN
15:02 * 20.10.14
Chairman of the Poultry Breeders of Armenia Sergey Stepanyan says
that Armenian producers are concerned over import of eggs because it
causes a price reduction and difficulties for local farmers.
"Eggs with expiring date are often imported to Armenia. As a result,
low-quality eggs are sold at a reduced price, which makes local
producers reduce their prices," he told Tert.am.
Local producers have expressed their concern to the government.
"Even if there is a need for import, we asked the government to allow
us to deal with the problem," Mr Stepanyan said.
The government promised to answer on Monday.
"Local producers successfully meet the domestic demand, and we do
not need imported eggs," he said.
"So we are making a common decision on Monday. If we see a need for
import, it is preferable that companies producing meat products or
confectionery import eggs for their own needs."
