ARTHUR ABRAHAM: I WOULD LIKE TO FIGHT PAUL SMITH AGAIN

    WBN - World Boxing News
    Oct 20 2014

WBO super-middleweight champion Arthur Abraham has admitted that a
rematch with Paul Smith is on his agenda if promoters Sauerland can
work out a deal with the Briton's team.

The 34 year-old was seemingly pushed all the way by Smith last
month in Kiel, Germany in making the third defence of his title in
two spells champion, although the ringside judges scored it wide in
    Abraham's favour.

Smith, along with a huge section of the boxing world, was outraged by
the decision and has since failed in a bid for the WBO to stipulate
a mandatory rematch. That ruling may now be rendered obsolete as
Abraham has said that he is keen to swap punches with Smith once more.

"He (Smith) was no easy opponent. But we had worked out good tactics
with my coach, and I was trying to keep him at distance. As a result
I won on points without major problems," pointed out Abraham at a
press conference in Armenia on Monday.

Abraham then went on: "The bout was interesting to spectators, that's
why I would like to fight him again, but it's up to our promoters to
    arrange the issue."

Sauerland have already stated that a rematch is a possibility in
addressing the controversy in the immediate aftermath as promoter
Kalle outlined to WBN back on October 2.

"I have been in talks pretty much since the last bell on Saturday with
Eddie. I think it was a great fight, but I do believe Abraham won,"
    said Kalle.

"Paul also had a victory that night over his critics, in the fact
that he showed that he certainly belongs at that level. I think the
WBO should award him with a strong ranking and if that leads to a
    mandatory then great.

"Either way, I would love to see the fight again and Arthur is also
    up for doing it again.

"I am confident that either via the mandatory position or via a
voluntary deal that we will see this fight in 2015."

Smith is hoping to stay ahead of the Robert Stieglitz v Felix Sturm
winner in a bout scheduled for November 8 as Abraham is known to be
keen on meeting whomever comes out on top of the Stuttgart clash.

Stieglitz and ex-middleweight title holder Sturm collide at a
catchweight of 166.45lbs next month and Abraham is expected to be
ringside to witness two more of his prospective challengers in action.
