Fund modern educational technology for 85 young students at the Darbas
School in southern Armenia.
"The foundation of every state is the education of its youth." So
said Greek philosopher Diogenes in the 4th Century BC. He could well
have been speaking of today's Republic of Armenia whose future depends
on educating its youth.
The lack of computers and software across southern Armenia is a
barrier to quality education. Students without access to computers
are at a growing disadvantage in this interconnected, technology-based
world.
One example is the middle school in the village of Darbas which lacks
modern computer equipment and computer-based learning software.
Technology for Education in Armenia (TechEd Armenia) has been helping
students and teachers in Armenian villages since 2011. With help from
people like you, TechEd Armenia has been providing new computers,
educational software programs, and Wi-Fi Internet in the classroom
while simultaneously helping school teachers to use that equipment to
teach.
The learning tools we offer to students allow them to take control of
their education early in life and acquire the knowledge and skills
they need to later succeed professionally.
TechEd Armenia gives young students in rural villages the opportunity
to learn things they never imagined they could, and is a key to
improving the economy of these villages.
During the summer of 2014, the Kansas Air National Guard remodeled
three classrooms at the Darbas school as part of a humanitarian and
civic assistance initiative.
But the school remained virtually without computers. We need a total
of $5,060 to acquire 8 new computers with accessories, software
programs, a multi-function printer, a screen-projector, and Wi-Fi
Internet connectivity. Our remaining goal is $3,300 of which $1,515
has been raised thus far on the Indiegogo crowfunding website

The school in the village of Uyts is an example of TechEd Armenia's
work. Meghan McGinty, an American teacher and Peace Corps volunteer
there, pleaded for new computers to enable students to learn English,
acquire modern computer skills and up-to-date information from the
Internet.
TechEd Armenia gave the Uyts schools the computers they needed. We
have tracked their successful use with constant visits, teacher
education, and upgrading of their computers.
TechEd Armenia has also successfully implemented computer technology
education in the southern Armenian village schools of Sisian, Shamb,
Angeghakot, and Goris School #3.
Our most recent project was for the 57 students at the village school
of Lor in August 2014: 6 new computers, new multi-function printer,
and Wi-Fi Internet router.
Preparations are underway for the village of Darbas School. It is
scheduled to receive computers during the last week in November 2014
(Thanksgiving week). The students are waiting. But we need funding.
Technology for Education in Armenia (TechEd Armenia) operates as a
non-profit program of the Holy Cross Armenian Catholic Church in
Belmont, Massachusetts. TechEd Armenia is composed solely of
volunteers who work for free.
We know that you value the youth and future of Armenia. Your gift
will help make a genuine contribution towards the education of
Armenian youth and the strengthening of Armenian statehood.
