YEREVAN. - Armenia can be a democratic country based on western values
even within Eurasian Economic Union, ANC leader and former president
Levon Ter-Petrosyan said. (photos)
There is no need to mourn in connection with country's joining
Eurasian Union, the politician said addressing thousands of three
parties' supporters in Liberty Square.
On the contrary, we have to work hard and use all advantages from this
integration, Ter-Petrosyan believes.
"Our accession to the Eurasian Union, as I have said several times, is
an irreversible process, moreover, in the foreseeable future, our
country will live it in this framework. However, Armenia can achieve
success only with legitimate power, even within the Eurasian Union,"
he added.
Warning opponents against accusing him of pro-Russian statements,
former president admitted that every country abandons a part of its
sovereignty by joining an international organization.
"You can see France and Germany dictating their position to other
members of the EU, so it is needless to claim that with EEU, we will
lose more sovereignty than European integration," he added.
He said "artificial attempts" to spread anti-Russian sentiments are "senseless".
"Just look at the tragic example of Ukraine and you can draw conclusions".
