The statement of the President of Kazakhstan Nursultan Nazarbayev on
clarifying the borders with which Armenia must enter the Eurasian
Economic Union raises concern among many that a customs point will
be placed between Armenia and Nagorno-Karabakh.
The representatives of the authorities convince that these are just
oral statements don't having a legal force.
"For the first time Nazarbayev voiced this issue in Astana. We have
no issues with the EEU and this statement was just made to do good
to Turkish world as well as bite Aliyev," political analyst Levon
Melik-Shahnazaryan told Nyut.am. "Nazarbayev also stated that there
is no issue with the borders," he said.
As to customs check-point, it operates between Armenia and Artsakh
from 1995-1996. "This point is in Berdadzor, but no one stands there,
it exists but it does not function. If it starts operating the people
there will eliminate it in five minutes. But it will not happen,"
he said.
Melik-Shahnazaryan also stressed that each state decides its customs
borders on its own. "In case we want we can create free customs zone
in the Armenian territory as well. It is our right and this right
will be preserved especially in Artsakh issue," he convinced.
