The United States, as the co-chairman of OSCE Minsk Group, has made no
statements about the return of the occupied Azerbaijani territories
for over 20 years, deputy acting secretary of the ruling party Yeni
Azerbaijan, MP Siyavush Novruzov said Oct. 28 during the discussion
of current issues in the parliament.
He said that despite the repeated holding of democratic election in
Azerbaijan, the United States did not make such statements.
"This is another clear example of the dual policy of international
organizations, large states," Novruzov said. "Therefore, we propose
to send an appeal to the co-chairman countries of OSCE Minsk Group
and demand to clarify these issues on behalf of the Milli Majlis."
It has not been long since election in Ukraine finished, followed by
announcement of the results, and the US has already made a statement
that this election was fair, transparent and correct, the deputy said.
.
"We do not interfere in this election, it is their internal matter,"
Novruzov said. "But it is impossible to remain silent when we see such
attitude of the United States. We all know how parliamentary election
was held there. But the US leadership, which promotes democracy and
justice in the world, declared the validity of the election right
away and their readiness to help in the return of Crimea to Ukraine."
The conflict between the two South Caucasus countries began in 1988
when Armenia made territorial claims against Azerbaijan.
As a result of the ensuing war, in 1992 Armenian armed forces occupied
20 percent of Azerbaijan, including the Nagorno-Karabakh region and
seven surrounding districts.
The two countries signed a ceasefire agreement in 1994. The co-chairs
of the OSCE Minsk Group, Russia, France and the U.S. are currently
holding peace negotiations.
Armenia has not yet implemented four U.N. Security Council resolutions
on the liberation of the Nagorno-Karabakh and the surrounding regions.
