AMMAN, Oct. 29 (Xinhua) -- King Abdullah II of Jordan Wednesday warned
of the forced displacement of Arab Christians in some unrest-hit
neighboring countries, the state-run Petra news agency reported.
Arab Christians played a significant role in the evolution of the
Arab-Muslim civilization throughout history, the King said during a
meeting with Armenian President Serzh Sargsyan, who was on an official
visit to Jordan.
Many Christian families have fled the Islamic State (IS) militants
seeking refugee in other areas in Iraq like the Kurdish capital of
Irbil and then made their way to Amman, Jordan, where they found
sanctuary.
He stated that his country is exerting strenuous efforts to convoy the
true moderate image of Islam and promote dialogue and understanding
among followers of different religions.
The monarch and the Armenian president discussed ways to cement
bilateral ties, especially in the economic and tourism fields. They
also talked about the latest developments in the Middle East region.
For his part, the Armenian president said his country is keen on
strengthening relations with Jordan and coordinating with the Kingdom
on issues of common interest.
He hailed Jordan as a model for security, stability and moderation
in the Middle East and the world.
The two leaders stressed the need for efforts to reach a just and
comprehensive peace in the Middle East, based on the two-state
solution.
The talks dealt with unilateral Israeli measures and violations against
Jerusalem's Muslim and Christian shrines, namely the Al- Aqsa Mosque,
which threaten peace prospects and regional stability.
They also discussed Syria's crisis and called for a political solution
to the ongoing conflict which has been raging for years now.
King Abdullah underlined that Jordan, along with regional and
international partners, is working to ward off the threat of terrorism
and extremist ideology that targets everyone without exception.
