YEREVAN--To mark the 100th anniversary of the death of Jean-Jaurès
(1859-1914), a large delegation of lawmakers and proponents of the
Armenian cause in France, led by Bruno Le Roux (President of the
Socialist faction in the French National Assembly), are traveling to
Yerevan at the invitation of the Armenian Revolutionary Federation
(ARF) and the Armenian National Committee of France (CDCA).
The delegation will attend several ceremonies at the Dzidzernagapert
Memorial of the Armenian Genocide, as well as a conference at the
French University of Yerevan, titled "Jean Jaurès and Armenians." The
tour continues with the opening of an exhibition of Jaurès and the
Armenian cause.
Among the participants are Françoise Dumas, Luc Carvounas, Rene
Rouquet, Pascal Popelin, Erwan Binet, Nathalie Nieson, Serge
Franceschi, Mourad Papazian, Harout Mardirossian, Alexis Govciyan,
Richard Ananian, Jirig Gharapetian, Dikran Tchertchian, and Vartan
Kaprielian.
On 1897, Jaurès was the only one to raise his voice in the House of
Representatives to denounce the massacre of Armenians. He famously
said: "Humanity cannot live with the corpse of a murdered people in
his basement."
