Electronic database on Lake Sevan to be created and launched
YEREVAN, September 4. / ARKA /. The Armenian government has approved
today a decision on creation and launch of an electronic database on
Lake Sevan.
Nature protection minister Aramais Grigoryan said the database will
include up-to-date information on the results of monitoring of the
lake and its water outlet area.
"This is expected to improve the effectiveness of measures aimed to
address the problems of the lake," he said.
Lake Sevan is the main source of drinking water in the region and one
of the largest alpine lakes in Europe and Asia. It is located in the
heart of the Armenian highlands, at an altitude of 1914 meters.
Its length from north-west to south-east is 70 kilometers, and its
water surface area is about 1.5 thousand square kilometers. -0-
