Armenia's action plan for reducing greenhouse gas emissions to be
ready for government in 2015
YEREVAN, September 8. /ARKA/. The national action plan for reducing
greenhouse gas emissions will be submitted to the government for
approval in 2015, Armenia's Minister of Ecology Aramayis Grigoryan
said.
A workshop is held in Yerevan on September 8-10 by the secretariat of
the UNO framework convention on climate change and Armenia's ministry
of ecology. The workshop is to prepare reports on regional two-year
progress for Asia, Pacific region and Eastern Europe.
Armenia signed the framework convention on Climate change in 1992 and
ratified it in 1993. As required by the convention, Armenia shall
provide a progress report that includes the national cadastre report
about greenhouse gas emissions. A national action plan for reducing
these emissions should be part of the report.
Since 1992 Armenia has been taking active part in discussions and has
contributed to the activities of UN climate change committee,
Grigoryan told a press conference on Monday.
Peculiar features of each country should be studied in order to
prepare effective programs, the minister said.
According to the minister, Armenia has now managed to overcome the
transition and ensure sustainable economic growth. From 1990 to 2010
Armenia proved able to reduce its greenhouse gas emissions by three
times, and 68% of these emissions is recorded in energy sector today,
Grigoryan said.
Some 54 representatives of 47 countries are participating in the
workshop to discuss organizational issues, coordination and fund
raising. -0--
