The defense ministers of Georgia, Turkey and Azerbaijan converged
in Tbilisi on Thursday to develop trilateral military cooperation
launched about a year ago.
"The purpose of trilateral cooperation is regional peace and security.
It is not aimed against third parties, but rather helps professional
development of our armed forces," Georgian Defense Minister Mindia
Janelidze told reporters at the end of the private session.
In the words of Turkish Defense Minister Ismet Yilmaz, trilateral
defense cooperation "is a good mechanism of regional stability."
In turn, Azeri Defense Minister Zakir Hasanov accused Armenia of
destabilizing the region. "Armenia is the only state in the region
which lays territorial claims to our countries. We will continue to
address this problem," he told reporters.
