ARMENIA MADE THE RIGHT CHOICE - SERZH SARGSYAN

In an interview with the broadcast "Opinion" (Rossiya 24 channel),
Armenia's President Serzh Sargsyan spoke of Armenia's accession to
the Eurasian Economic Union (EEU).
Speaking of the prospects for Armenia's economy, Armenia's leader said:
"I am sure of bright prospects. Otherwise, we would not have made
such a decision. We are joining a 170-million-strong market, and
it is a great achievement for small Armenia. The EEU's principles
are universal, transparent and civilized, which will foster the
well-being of our people, provided we respect each other and each
other's sovereignty. I am sure Armenia made the right choice. I am
sure that we would have many more problems now under any different
circumstances. First, our economies are interrelated, and Russia's
economic problems would certainly affect our economy regardless of
whether or not we joined the EEU. There are at least three factors
we must always consider: our agricultural produce is largely sold on
the EEU markets, and the depreciation of the Russian ruble cannot
but affect Armenia's economy, and Russian citizens' problems mean
problems for our producers."
Secondly, many Armenian citizens working in Russia transfer money to
their relatives in Armenia. While the amount of money transfers has
increased by 13%, the cost of money has decreased almost two times.
Thirdly, Russia is major investor in Armenia's economy. And Russian
investors' problems mean problems for Armenia's economy.
"But I say again that by joining the EEU we at least removed obstacles,
we can easier organize flow of capital, movement of goods and labor,"
President Serzh Sargsyan said.
