April 8, 2015 13:10
Yerevan /Mediamax/. Komitas String Quartet performed at UWC Dilijan
College on April 7, thus continuing the series of concerts launched at
the college. The concerts are organized by Initiatives for Development
of Armenia (IDeA) Foundation and UWC Dilijan College.
As previously, this time also not only the students of the college
and its academic staff had the chance to attend the concert but also
representatives of Dilijan city's educational and other community
institutions, and young inhabitants of the community.
The quartet performed works by not only Komitas but also other
world known composers bestowing an evening of classical music on
the audience. The performances were accompanied by comments of music
expert Nona Voskanyan.
"During this series of concerts held at UWC Dilijan College we
attempted to present as many genres as possible - jazz, ethnic
and modern music, and today we had classical music. Our initiative
aimed to show that Dilijan might also become an interesting venue
for cultural events for which it has great potential," underlined
Foundation's Deputy CEO Sergey Tantushyan.
"We were very pleased to host concerts by distinguished Armenian
performers, especially tonight the Komitas String Quartet and to
listen to them play a mixture of classical Western music and Armenian
traditional music, particularly the pieces by Komitas. We hope very
much that in future we will have a series of concerts that will
bring more culture and life to Dilijan's musical world and it will be
possible to have a long series of people of great distinction coming
to play in the school," noted Head of Dilijan College John Puddefoot.
It should be noted that within the series of concerts organized
at UWC Dilijan College, the college has already hosted Medz Bazar
(Grand Bazaar) band and famous jazz musician Tigran Hamasyan.
