Swedish City to Host Assyrian Genocide Exhibiton
    Posted 2015-04-11 18:58 GMT

Sodertalje, Sweden (AINA) -- The City Hall of the Swedish city of
Sodertalje, 36 kilometers south of Stockholm, will host an exhibition
dedicated to the 100th anniversary of the Assyrian, Greek and Armenian
Genocide. Sodertalje is home to 30,000 Assyrians, a quarter of the
population. The city council made the decision to host the Genocide
exhibition because of the large Assyrian population in the city and
the Swedish parliament's official recognition the Assyrian genocide in
    2010 (AINA 2010-03-12).

The genocide of Assyrians, Greeks and Armenians was committed by
Ottoman Turks during World War One, between 1915 and 1923. The
genocide claimed the lives of 750,000 Assyrians (75%), 500,000 Greeks
    and 1.5 million Armenians.

The exhibition aims to raise awareness of the historical events that
led to the genocide and wwill run from April 15 to May 15. The
exhibition will be inaugurated by the mayor of Sodertalje, Boel
Godner, and will feature a speech by Turkish publicist and writer
Ragip Zarakolu, lectures by experts in the field and a panel
    discussion with guest speakers.
