Turkey shares the pain of Armenians, says Davutoglu
Turkish Prime Minister Ahmet Davutoglu announced via his official
website on Monday that his country once again remembers the Ottoman
Armenians who died during 1915 displacement and that Turks share
the pain of their children and grandchildren. The statement also
makes statements that drew the condemnation of high-level officials
in Yerevan.
Deputy Chairman of the Armenian National Assembly Eduard Sharmazanov
told news.am Monday that Davutoglu's announcement fits the logic with
which Turkey is guided recently.
"Davutoglu refers to Erdogan's announcement from last year. I must
say that it is a very bad comparison because a victim and a killer
cannot be put on the same platform. Secondly, Davutoglu said that
history must not be turned into a political tool. Yes, history must
not be turned into a political tool, but the Turkish government does
exactly this criticizing those Turkish politicians who speak of the
Armenian Genocide," Sharmazanov said. The deputy chairman added that
Davutoglu's announcement that it is important to face the past is
not consistent with Turkey's habit of faking history.
The NA Heritage faction MP, former Minister of Foreign Affairs
Alexander Arzumanyan also addressed the Turkish PM's announcement,
saying that under pressure Turkey is trying to take up some steps,
which are not adequate, which contributes to developing more
anti-Turkish sentiments.
"At the moment, with such announcements he simply helps the Armenian
side to clarify its approaches even more," Arzumanyan told reporters.
The Armenian National Committee of America (ANCA) said that the fake
apology of the Turkish PM does does not express any regret and does
not imply any responsibility and compensation.
"Coming across the overall wave of the Armenian Genocide, starting
from the Pope until the European Council, the Turkish leaders
demonstratively double the denial," Washington ANCA office executive
director Aram Hambaryan wrote in a statement.
