Political-economic interests should not be at a higher level than the
historic truth, said head of "Prosperous Armenia Party" parliamentary
faction Naira Zohrabyan while delivering her speech on the Armenian
Genocide during the PACE session.
She reminded that 1.5 million Armenians had been murdered in Ottoman
Turkey 100 years before. "Modern Turkey will remain the successor
and associate of Ottoman Turkey until it stoutly denies the Armenian
Genocide", she said.
At the same time she stressed that the recognition and condemnation
of the Armenian Genocide would contribute to the prevention of such
future crimes. "Crimes committed in Cambodia, Rwanda, Darfur, as well
as Islamic State's actions show that the impunity and denial policy
cause new genocides", she summed up.
Republican Party deputy Armine Hovhannisyan also raised the issue of
the Armenian Genocide.
To note, during the session the Azerbaijani delegation "did a new show"
- at the beginning head of the Azeri delegation to PACE Samed Seidov
said, "Armenian soldiers do not want to serve on territories which do
not belong to the Armenians". Then the delegation demonstrated edited
photos featuring Armenian soldier Andranik Grigoryan who had crossed
the border into to Azerbaijan. He was supposedly hoisting a white flag.
