TURKEY IS AFRAID OF RECOGNIZING THE ARMENIAN GENOCIDE BECAUSE OF THE FEELING OF SHAME CAROLINE COX

YEREVAN, 22 APRIL, ARMENPRESS. Turkey is afraid of recognizing the
Armenian Genocide because of the feeling of shame. Islamic states
attach great importance to shame, and Turkey is very afraid of
recognition. This is what Baroness Caroline Cox said during a briefing
with journalists at the forum entitled "Against the Crime of
Genocide", adding that she is certain that Turkey will recognize it.
"Turkey will eventually recognize the Armenian Genocide. I visited
Turkey a couple of years ago, and my colleagues, who are scholars and
professors, would declare that they want Turkey to recognize the
Armenian Genocide. Turkey is very afraid of leaving a stain of shame
on its history. It would be much easier, if they thought that genocide
recognition is a matter of honor," Cox said, adding that Turkey is
also afraid of the fact that the Armenians will raise the issue of
elimination of the consequences following recognition. Cox sees
progress in coverage of the Armenian Genocide by English-language
media outlets this year. In response to "Armenpress"'s question as to
how she would interpret the decision of the Prince of England to
participate in the celebration dedicated to the victory in the Battle
of Gallipoli on April 24, Cox said she had no comment.
