US to cramp Russia in Karabakh peace talks?

    12:52, 31.01.2015

Former co-chair of the OSCE Minsk Group and US ex-Ambassador to Baku
Matthew Bryza, who is known for his pro-Azerbaijani stance, believes
that Washington should demonstrate more interests in the
    Nagorno-Karabakh peace talks.

Speaking to Vestnik Kavkaza, Bryza urged the American authorities to
guarantee Armenian and Azerbaijani presidents political support to
achieve a breakthrough in these negotiations.

"[The US President should] guarantee Presidents Aliyev and Sargsyan
support, the way Dmitry Medvedev did when he was Russian President.

"At the same time, [US] President [Barack] Obama should publicly
demonstrate that this issue is important for the US," he stated, in
    particular.

Bryza added that the presidents of either Armenia or Azerbaijan should
make the first step to show readiness for a compromise.

The ex-ambassador also maintained that the Azerbaijani and Turkish
diasporas could contribute to the formation of an opinion about the
conflict in the US, and it would be even more effective together with
    concessions from Baku and Yerevan.

As per Bryza, American leaders will sooner or later recognize the
strategic interests around Azerbaijan. In his words, Obama's call for
protection of strategic interests in Saudi Arabia should have
    analogical urges for Azerbaijan.

According to the diplomat, the US paid very little attention to the
South Caucasus, but the situation can be rectified, starting with
determination of American interests in the region.
