MASS MEDIA: HOVIK ABRAHAMYAN TRYING TO PERSUADE GAGIK TSARUKYAN TO LEAVE POLITICS

    by Ashot Safaryan

    Friday, February 13, 11:20

It is widely rumored that the authorities mull Hovik Abrahamyan's
dismissal from the post of the prime minister and his appointment as
head of the headquarters to prepare a referendum for the Constitutional
    reform.

A Yerevan-based newspaper "Zhoghovurd" ("The People") writes citing
its own sources that the authorities sought to repeat what they did in
November 2011, when Hovik Abrahamyan left his post of the parliament
speaker and headed the Republican Party's pre-election headquarters.

"However, following a meeting with Serzh Sargsyan, it was decided to
leave Hovik Abrahamyan on his position of the prime minister. This
implies his direct participation in the 'war' against his relative
Gagik Tsarukyan. Of course, Hovik Abrahamyan may try to persuade
Tsarukyan to leave the politics, but he will stand little chance for
    success," the paper writes.

President of Armenia Serzh Sargsyan has decreed that the membership
of Gagik Tsarukyan, leader of the Prosperous Armenia Party, in the
National Security Council is considered null and void

Earlier, speaking at the Republican Party Council meeting,
Serzh Sargsyan levered harsh criticism at Tsarukyan for his
'pseudo-political' activity, saying he would be excluded from the
Security Council, because "the supreme security body of the country
is not a cinema where one can come and leave when he wants."
