!f Ä°stanbul expands to 34 cities -- from Yerevan to Jerusalem

is one of six films to be shown as part of the section "!f²" at this
year's !f Ä°stanbul International Independent Film Festival.

Next month's !f Ä°stanbul International Independent Film Festival will
reach out to cineastes in 29 cities across Turkey and in an additional
six locations abroad -- including the Armenian and Israeli capitals --
with special screenings, the organizers of the event announced
Wednesday.
The screenings, to be held at the same time as the festival's Ä°stanbul
leg, will be offered under the label !f², an alternative film
distribution and sharing project the Ä°stanbul-based festival first
launched in 2010.
The city of Girne in the Turkish Republic of Northern Cyprus (KKTC),
Yerevan and Gyumri in Armenia, Jerusalem, and the Palestinian capital
of Ramallah will be hosting a six-piece selection of the year's finest
indies thanks to !f², aimed at bringing the festival experience to
audiences who generally have very limited access to independent films
and billed by the festival's organizers as the first project of its
kind across the world.
`1001 Grams,' an offbeat Norwegian comedy-drama directed by Bent
Hamer; `The Kindergarten Teacher,' an eccentric drama by Israeli
director Nadav Lapid; the documentaries `The Yes Men Are Revolting,'
from the United States, and `Silvered Water, Syria Self-Portrait,'
from Syria, as well as two ecological documentaries from Turkey that
tell about public protests in the Aegean village of Yırca and
Ä°stanbul's ValidebaÄ? Grove against construction projects, will be
shown as part of !f².
Turkish cities that will host !f² include Antakya, Antalya, Balıkesir,
Batman, Bursa, Çanakkale, Diyarbakır, Gaziantep, Mardin, Tunceli and
Van, and the coastal towns of Bodrum and Datça in MuÄ?la, among others.
!f² screenings will take place from Feb. 20-22. Question and answer
sessions with filmmakers following screenings will also be streamed
live as part of the program.
