ARMENIA DID NOT SEND ECHR JUDGE CANDIDATES LIST TO PACE
When asked by Iravaban.net whether media reports about the rejection
by the PACE of Armenia's candidates for a judge in the European Court
of Human Rights (ECHR) are true, Armenian Foreign Ministry's spokesman
Tigran Balayan said:
"The Foreign Ministry received an opinion of the Advisory Group
of the Council of Europe's Committee of Ministers of December 22,
2014 in response to an inquiry of the Republic of Armenia. It says
that one of Armenia's candidates for a vacant position of a judge in
ECHR does not fully meet the requirements for a legist with generally
acknowledged authority.
In view of the aforesaid, a decision was made not to send the list
of the winners of the state contest held in Armenia to the PACE.
Therefore the list could not be rejected by the PACE".
