The Russian Foreign Ministry said Moscow was shocked by the murder
of a family of six in the Armenian town of Gyumri, presumably by a
Russian serviceman, and that Russian law enforcement services were
assisting the investigation.
"We were shocked, like the Armenian people, by the appalling crime
against a family in Gyumri, and are conveying our sincere condolences
to the victims' relatives. We wish a swift recovery to the seriously
wounded child," the Russian Foreign Ministry said in a commentary,
posted on its website on Monday.
"Russia's competent services are providing all necessary assistance
to the Armenian government in tracking down the killers and bringing
them to justice to the full effect of the law," it said.
A family of six, including a two year-old child, were killed in Gyumri
on Monday. A six-month old baby was hospitalized in a very serious
condition, earlier reports said.
The suspect, a soldier from Russia's 102nd military base Valery
Permyakov, has been declared wanted.
