RUSSIA HELPING ARMENIA TO INVESTIGATE GYUMRI MURDER - FOREIGN MINISTRY

    Interfax, Russia
    January 13, 2015

    MOSCOW. Jan 12

The Russian Foreign Ministry said Moscow was shocked by the murder
of a family of six in the Armenian town of Gyumri, presumably by a
Russian serviceman, and that Russian law enforcement services were
    assisting the investigation.

"We were shocked, like the Armenian people, by the appalling crime
against a family in Gyumri, and are conveying our sincere condolences
to the victims' relatives. We wish a swift recovery to the seriously
wounded child," the Russian Foreign Ministry said in a commentary,
posted on its website on Monday.

"Russia's competent services are providing all necessary assistance
to the Armenian government in tracking down the killers and bringing
them to justice to the full effect of the law," it said.

A family of six, including a two year-old child, were killed in Gyumri
on Monday. A six-month old baby was hospitalized in a very serious
    condition, earlier reports said.

The suspect, a soldier from Russia's 102nd military base Valery
    Permyakov, has been declared wanted.

***YEREVAN. Jan 12 (Interfax) - The Russian embassy in Armenia has
released a statement in the wake of the murder of a family of six by
a Russian serviceman in Gyumri in northern Armenia.

"We are shocked by this horrible tragedy and share the grief of
the Armenian people. We convey our condolences to the relatives and
families of the victims. Those who committed this appalling crime must
receive the severest punishment possible," the Russian embassy said.

"The relevant Armenian and Russian services are investigating the
incident in order to get an objective and comprehensive picture of
what happened. Investigators are coordinating their work in full
compliance with the agreement on the presence of Russia's 102nd
military base in Armenia," the statement says.

Meanwhile, Armenian Deputy Foreign Minister Shavarsh Kocharian received
Russian Ambassador to Armenia Ivan Volynkin on Monday.

The parties expressed deep concern about the cruel murder of the
    Avyetisian family in Gyumri.

"The Russian ambassador conveyed his condolences over the tragedy,
saying that the Russian side wished to see the earliest possible
disclosure of the details of the murder and wanted those guilty to be
brought to justice. He said the command of the Russian military base
in Gyumri was fully cooperating with Armenian law enforcement services,
facilitating the investigation," the Armenian Foreign Ministry said.

Reports said earlier that a family of six, including a two-year-old
child, were killed in Gyumri on Monday. A six-month-old baby was
hospitalized in a very serious condition.

The suspect Valery Permyakov, a serviceman from the 102nd military
    base, has been declared wanted.

A police spokesman told Interfax that a criminal inquiry had been
started on a charge of multiple murder.

Armenian President Serzh Sargsian said in a conference call with
law enforcement officials earlier on Monday that, "investigating the
details of this tragedy, identifying those guilty and punishing them
with all the vigor of the law" was a matter of great importance.
