The largest-scale project of 2015 is creating engineering laboratories
in all schools, Karen Vardanyan, Executive Director of the Union of
Information Technology Enterprises (UITE), told Tert.am as he spoke of
the UITE-planned projects for this year.
"The project is expected to have essential influence on the market and
treble labor force during following years. We may see the results in
2020-2022," Mr Vardanyan said.
In this context, he pointed out the new law on support to start-ups.
"I think we should make efforts to promote the Armenian brand. That
is, we have to explain 'why it is Armenia' for our partners working
here to be able to answer the question."
With regard the growth expected this year, Mr Vardanyan said:
"Growth depends on your revolutionary changes. For example, Belarus'
IT sector has ensured annual growth of about 100% for the past five
years. We are not so purposeful, but relevant work is in progress."
He points out young people's interest in information technologies.
Armenia's IT sector is capable of competing abroad as well.
"At least half of our 12,000 IT sector workers export their products
to the United States," Mr Vardanyan said.
