THE NUMBER OF VICTIMS HAS REALLY INCREASED - AZERBAIJANI JOURNALIST
13:25 | January 26,2015 | Politics
During today's panel discussion entitled "Recent Political Developments
and Heightened Tension along the Armenian-Azerbaijani Border,"
Azerbaijani journalist, political analyst Shahin Rzayev said more
people are killed along the Line of Contact these days.
"But people in Azerbaijan, unlike Armenia, believe that the war has
not ended yet and soldiers are killed in the war," he said.
Stepan Grigoryan, Head of the Analytical Centre on Globalization and
Regional Cooperation, stressed that 'the initiative always comes from
the Azerbaijani side.' "Azerbaijan wants to show the international
community that the problem is not solved, it is not frozen," he said.
Tevan Poghosyan, a lawmaker representing the Heritage faction at the
Armenian National Assembly, said Armenian military units were ready for
the intensified tension on the border at the beginning of the year;
the Defence Ministry's statement that Armenia can take cautionary
steps and respond to Azerbaijan on the spot testify to this belief.
Analyzing the tensions on the Armenian-Azerbaijani border in recent
days, we see two important factors. Everything is the same from the
military point of view, but Azerbaijan is attempting to increase the
geographic scope of its attacks. If in the past ceasefire violations
were determined by the amount of fired shots, today they are determined
by the number of victims," said Richard Giragosian, Founding Director
of the Regional Studies Center.
