Ohanyan: We Can Turn Azerbaijan's Territory to Hot Spot Any Time

The Armenian side has thoroughly analyzed and concluded that the
escalation at the line of contact is determined by foreign and
domestic problems, said the minister of defense Seiran Ohanyan in
today's press conference.
The domestic problems are what is currently happening inside that
country, namely economic issues, distracting the public from problems
of freedom of expression and other issues, in terms of foreign policy
it intends to influence the process of negotiations.
"The head of a military agency cannot afford to rule out military
operations or local fights. However, we must do everything to prevent
a large-scale war, and today we cannot see such tendency. Whatever the
purpose of the enemy, we will also take pre-emptive measures besides
defense. If the enemy thinks that we will observe the red line for the
sake of ceasefire, they are mistaken. At any time we can turn the
territory of the enemy to a hot spot which it will not be able to cope
with," Ohanyan says.
Commenting on Serzh Sargsyan's speech yesterday on giving a tough
response to the enemy, the minister of defense said Azerbaijan has
tried to cause escalation recently, having domestic and foreign
issues. The losses of their own personnel are not stopping them from
such style.
According to Seiran Ohanyan, this situation is not acceptable for the
military and political leadership of Armenia, especially considering
the people's impressions from the situation.
"It is necessary to make prompt decisions: either observe the peace
agreement or take relevant measures to maintain peace. If the enemy
does not understand in political terms, any encroachment must get a
worthy counterattack. If escalation is chronic, it is necessary to
take pre-emptive measures, and we have possibilities for that," he
said.
Seiran Ohanyan said the answer to the downing of the Armenian
helicopter was disproportionate, the answer of the Armenian side was
many times stronger.
