Zhoghovurd: Will NATO be security guarantor for Armenia?

Following the recent bloody murder in Gyumri, the possible withdrawal
of the city's Russian military came under the spotlight of the
Armenian and Russian media.
The paper says it has talked to the acting US ambassador to Armenia
for comments on possible security guarantees by NATO in case the plan
is realized. The question was asked particularly in the context of
tense Armenian-Azerbaijani and Armenian Turkish relations.
The reply which the paper received from the Embassy said reportedly
that that a partnership with as valuable a partner as Armenia depends
fully upon the Government. The diplomat said in the letter that no
question on Armenia's membership is on the agenda at present given
that the country has not yet submitted any bid for joining the
North-Atlantic Alliance.
