"War of sabotage" has no prospect - Armenian president
YEREVAN. Jan 28
Armenian President Serzh Sargsian has said he is certain that his
country is being forced into a new type of a war, in which the
adversary is suffering.
"Today, attempts are being made to force upon us a new type of a war
because they (the Azerbaijanis) lost the previous wars of this type.
In the so-called 'war of sabotage' they will also be defeated. That
this war has no prospects is evident even to those who call us an
enemy," Sarsian told reporters after an award ceremony on the occasion
of the Army Day on Wednesday.
Referring to the 1915 Armenian genocide in the Ottoman Empire, the
president said: "What happened 100 years ago was a
government-orchestrated, successfully implemented genocide."
"We are also aware that such a program could only be implemented in
the absence of Armenian statehood. Today, on this remarkable day, I
reiterate for those who do not fully understand: the Armenian people
are back to normal life, back into the international family of
nations, with its statehood and its army."
Sargsian also criticized remarks made by high-ranking Azeri officials.
"They are aired from all possible platforms. According to them, not
just the Nagorno-Karabakh Republic, but the whole of Armenia are
'historical Azeri' lands and these lands must, so to speak, be
'freed.' We are perfectly aware of the target of such 'manifesto;
rhetoric. And what do we say? We say: the right of Nagorno-Karabakh:
to a free life is not under discussion. Period."
According to the Armenian Defense Ministry, two members of the
country's Armed Forces were killed in clashes with special-forces
units of the Azerbaijan Armed Forces last Friday.
The situation in the Karabakh conflict zone has escalated recently,
with both sides accusing one another daily of multiple ceasefire
breaches.
