Shake your sillies out with Raffi
He's been called the most popular children's singer in the
English-speaking world (theWashington Post), and deservedly so. He's
also a songwriter, music producer, author, ecology advocate, lecturer,
and tireless advocate for children.
Named after the Armenian poet, Raffi has a string of gold and
platinum-selling recordings in North America including his classic
song, "Baby Beluga." Other popular songs by Raffi are Shake My Sillies
Out, Brush Your Teeth, Bananaphone, Day-O and Down by the Bay.
Raffi believes that children should not be directly marketed to. He
has refused offers for commercial television shows and other
commercial endorsements. He also turned down a Hollywood offer to make
a film based on "Baby Beluga" since it would involve direct
advertising to children. His commitment to treating his young fans
with respect changed society's outlook on music made for children.
He's been referred to as "Canada's all time children's champion" and
is a recipient of the Order of Canada as well as the United Nations'
Earth Achievement Award. Raffifounded the Centre for Child Honouring
(childhonouring.org) which views early childhood as the gateway to
humane being.
