The Law "On cinematography" will give a fresh impetus to development
of Armenian film industry, Raffi Movsisyan, a movie critic, a member of
the expert commission for elaboration of the bill "On Cinematography",
has told ArmInfo. To note, the commission has been set up by the
order of Armenian Culture Minister Hasmik Poghosyan.
Movsisyan says that filmmakers, producers and movie critics have
repeatedly stressed the need to elaborate a law "On Cinematography".
Specific steps have already been taken to that end: the country
has studied the international practice and has held discussions
with experts.
He hopes that the new law will help resolve a number of topical
problems. First of all, the matter concerns taxation. The expert says
that at the moment cinematography in Armenia pays the same taxes as
the sausage or vodka industry.
Another important component of the bill will be to specify the
format of state support to the national cinematography. In addition,
if adopted, the law will make joint filmmaking with other countries
more effective.
One more significant aspect is to create favorable conditions for
foreign filmmakers wishing to shoot their films in Armenia.
"Certainly, the new law will not resolve all the problems accumulated
over decades. But it will give a fresh impetus to development of
Armenian film industry", he said.
The bill "On Cinematography" will supposedly be submitted for
consideration of the Parliament in 2015.
