POLAND AMBASSADOR TO ARMENIA REFUSES TO COMMENT ON STATEMENT BY HIS COLLEAGUE IN AZERBAIJAN

Poland's official stand on the Karabakh peace process is based on
the UN Resolutions, says Poland Ambassador to Armenia Jerzy Marek
Nowakowski in response to ArmInfo's official request.

Earlier, Azerbaijani media outlets quoted the Poland Ambassador to
Azerbaijan as saying: "The internationally recognized borders of one
country have been violated in Nagorno-Karabakh for the last quarter
of the century. The conflict broke out there for the first time. It
has not been resolved up till now. In fact, Europe's territory was
occupied. And the occupation has been continued for a quarter of the
century. Of course, this question is one of the most painful ones in
the European policy. At least, this is the official point of view of
the Polish side... Azerbaijan is the leading country in the region.

We must build a strategic relationship with this country. Poland
will always contribute to the preservation of the sovereignty and
independence of Azerbaijan." He said that Poland, as a member of the
EU and the OSCE, as far as possible will help restore "the territorial
integrity of Azerbaijan, using, of course, political and diplomatic
    methods."

In response, Poland Ambassador to Armenia Nowakowski said he is not
authorized to comment on the statements by other diplomats.

"I can just reiterate the official stand of Poland on the issue. It
is known and is based on the UN Resolutions on the settlement of
the Karabakh conflict. Poland actively contributes to the activity
of the OSCE MG and hopes for sooner resolution of the conflict,"
    the diplomat said.

He said Poland seeks cooperation with all the countries in the region,
given the strategic nature of that cooperation and the Eastern
Partnership's role in the policy of Poland and the EU. "Armenia
as a country having developed European and Christian traditions
and successfully building democratic institutions is of strategic
importance for us," the diplomat said for conclusion.
