SOME 270 EMERGENCY HEART SURGERIES PERFORMED IN THE FIRST TWO MONTHS
YEREVAN, March 11. / ARKA /. Some 270 emergency heart surgeries
were performed in Armenia in the first two months of 2015, Tsaghik
Vardanyan, head of a health ministry department, told a news
conference.
She specified that 116 surgeries were conducted in January and 154
in February as part of a government-funded program that was started
this past January.
Emergency surgeries are conducted in cases of acute forms of massive
heart attacks, posing real threats to lives, she said.
"After the surgery patients remain for six months under doctors'
supervision,' she added.
Saro Tsaturyan, another health ministry official, said that most of
surgeries -107- were performed at Erebuni medical center.
According to Tsaturyan, 151 patients were residents of Yerevan and
the other 119 were residents of provinces. Also 210 were men and 60
were women. The average age of patients was 63 years.
Only citizens of Armenia are eligible for this program. In exceptional
cases it can apply to foreigners, but a decision of the minister of
health is needed.
Under the program approved in 2014 the government will be releasing
500 million drams (over $1 million) in 2015 -2017 to pay for the
surgeries.-0-
