World-famous pianist Richard Clayderman has arrived in Armenia for
concerts that will take place in capital Yerevan this week.
The 61-year-old French musician famous for his instrumental renditions
of popular music, rearrangements of movie soundtracks, ethnic music,
and easy-listening arrangements of popular works of classical music
will perform at the Armenian National Academic Theatre of Opera and
Ballet after Alexander Spendiaryan on March 13 and 14.
"I am very happy since it is my first visit to this county after 35
years of performances," Clayderman told reporters after arriving in
Yerevan Wednesday.
He said his stay in Armenia would also be a good opportunity to learn
more about the country.
Clayderman, who has recorded over 1,300 melodies and is said to have
created a new romantic style through a repertoire that combines his
trademark originals with classics and pop standards, was particularly
popular in Armenia and other post-Soviet countries in the 1990s. Many
know him by his performances of "Ballade pour Adeline" and other
popular singles. Clayderman is noted by the Guinness Book of World
Records as being "the most successful pianist in the world".
