SOME 2,000 TONS OF FISH EXPORTED FROM ARMENIA TO RUSSIA IN 2014

YEREVAN, March 13. /ARKA/. About 2,000 tons of fish were exported from
Armenia to Russia in 2014, Arthur Atoyan, head of the Association of
Armenian Fish Exporters, said Friday at a news conference.

He failed to point out how much fish and fish products were exported
from Armenia to Russia over the first quarter 2015, but said that
    some companies' exports have shrank.

    he said.

According to the State Food Safety Service of Armenia, 26 Armenian
companies are entitled to export fish and fish products to Russia
but six of them had their exports temporarily banned because of some
    irregularities.

Atoyan said without naming the companies in black books and mentioning
    their irregularities.

In his words, there are no facts showing that the Russian side has
breached the law in punishing those organizations which have their
    exports temporarily banned.

Asked by ARKA News Agency about the threat posed to domestic market
by the banned exports, Atoyan said that norms in different countries
are different and that irregularities might be found in one batch,
while another batch might be absolutely normal.

There are 230 registered fishery companies in Armenia, but only
    140-150 of them actually work.

Fish from Armenia is mostly sent to Russia and more rarely to Georgia,
the United Arab Emirates and the United States.

According to the National Statistical Service, fish and fish products
worth 28.65 billion drams were produced in Armenia in 2014 - 24.6%
    more than in 2013. ($1 - AMD 481.75). ---0----
