KARABAKH PRESIDENT VISITS MARTAKERT-VARDENIS ROAD CONSTRUCTION SITE
YEREVAN, March 16. /ARKA/. The president of Nagorno-Karabakh Republic
(NKR) Bako Sahakyan visited on Sunday Martakert and Shahumyan regions
of the country on Sunday, the press office of NKR's president reported.
Sahakyan has been to the construction site of Martakert-Vardenis road,
according to the report. The president held a meeting at Yeghegnut
village of Shahumyan, where reports were made by NKR's minister of
urban planning Karen Shahramanyan and deputy executive director of
Hayastan All-Armenian Fund Ararat Khlghatyan.
Sahakyan said he was happy with the status of the works and stressed
the importance of ensuring the quality of the works and keeping
to deadlines.
The president visited the hydro power plant construction site near
Yeghegnut village. Sahakyan said Shahumyan region has great potential
for hydro power generation and the government will do its best to
promote development of hydro power field.
During his visit, the president was accompanied by NKR's premier Ara
Harutiunyan and other officials.
Martakert-Vardenis highway project approved by Trustees Board of
Hayastan Fund is expected to function as a direct road link and become
a second lifeline between northern Armenia and northern Karabakh,
significantly cutting down travel times, boosting the economies of
Karabakh communities along its path, stimulating inter-community
ties, and vastly improving geographic access for implementing local
