NA DEPUTY SPEAKER CONDEMNS TURKEY'S BEHAVIOUR AT THE MEETING WITH THE LATVIAN PARLIAMENTARIANS

    14.03.2015

The RA NA Deputy Speaker, the Head of Armenia-Latvia, Lithuania,
Estonia Parliamentary Friendship Group Eduard Sharmazanov's official
visit to the Republic of Latvia began.

On March 13 the NA Vice President had meetings with the Deputy Speakers
of Saeima of Latvia Inese Libina-Egnere, Gundars Daudze and the Saeima
Secretary Andrejs Klementjevs in Riga. Eduard Sharmazanov highlighted
the further rapprochement and strengthening of the Armenian-Latvian
bilateral relations, particularly the cooperation between the
parliaments of the two countries in terms of both in bilateral format
and on international parliamentary platforms. He wished effective
work to the Republic of Latvia in the presidency of the EU Council.

Touching upon the normalization of the Armenian-Turkish relations,
the NA Deputy Speaker has condemned the behaviour of Turkey's present
authorities, recording that Turkey stubbornly continues its denial
policy. Eduard Sharmazanov has expressed hope that Latvia will attend
the commemoration ceremonies dedicated to the Armenian Genocide at
high level. He has expressed his gratitude to the Latvian MPs for
supporting the opening of the exhibition dedicated to the Armenian
Genocide Centennial in the National Library of Latvia. The Deputy
Speaker of Saeima of Latvia Inese Libina-Egnere in her turn has noted
that Latvia understands the Armenian people's pain.

Both sides highlighted the necessity of exclusively peaceful settlement
    of all conflicts.

The NA Deputy Speaker awarded the Saeima Secretary Andrejs
Klementjevs the Medal of Honour of the National Assembly for the
significant contribution to the strengthening and development of the
    Armenian-Latvian relations.
