Yerevan /Mediamax/. A modern police special mission unit base opened in
the village of Apindza in the region of Samtskhe-Javakheti by Georgian
Prime Minister Irakly Gharibashvili and Minister of Internal Affairs
Vakhtang Gomelauri today.
Samtskhe-Javakheti is mostly populated with ethnic Armenians.
The ceremony was dedicated to the 10th anniversary of establishment
of the Department of Special and Emergency Measures Center at the
Ministry of Internal Affairs of Georgia.
The base in Aspindza has a regional status, its construction started in
2013, Mediamax's own correspondent reports. Special military equipment
and technique were presented at the event.
At the opening ceremony, Irakly Gharibashvili noted that the
construction of the base started upon his initiative when he was
heading the Georgian Ministry of Internal Affairs.
"There was a kindergarten here before. Afterwards, the building was
neglected. The former authorities wanted to build a hotel but they
didn't manage", he recalled.
"Earlier, there was no special mission unit in Samtskhe-Javakheti
and now citizens will feel more protected", stated the PM.
