FIDE'S ILYUMZHINOV TO TRY TO GET ARMENIAN PLAYERS TO PARTICIPATE IN BAKU CHESS TOURNAMENT
YEREVAN, March 17. /ARKA/. The World Chess Federation (FIDE) will try
to settle the issue of Armenian chess players' participation in the
upcoming tournament in the Azerbaijani capital, FIDE Chairman Kirsan
Ilyumzhinov told reporters.
Baku will host a knockout chess tournament from 10 September to 4
October, 2015, and the world chess olympiad in autumn 2016.
Earlier the Azeri chess team refused to come to Tsakhkadzor of Armenia
to participate in the chess team championship this April.
FIDE urges to leave all the "diverse political aspects" outside the
tournament hall and is inviting chess players from both Armenia and
Azerbaijan to compete in the same tournaments, Ilyumzhinov said.
FIDE Chairman also said he will address the heads of the national
chess federations of Azerbaijan and Armenia soon. Ilyumzhinov said they
would like the best chess players of the world, Azerbaijan and Armenian
chess teams in particular, to participate in the upcoming tournaments.
FIDE will apply also to the countries' leaders asking for their
support in ensuring participation of their players and the safety
of the other side, the chairman said, as cited by Novosti-Armenia
referring to RIA Novosti. -0--
