NEGOTIATIONS ON NEW EU-ARMENIA AGREEMENT TO START SOON
March 18, 2015 16:14
Johannes Hahn
Yerevan/Mediamax/. European Commissioner for European Neighborhood
Policy and Enlargement Negotiations Johannes Hahn said today he hopes
EU will obtain a mandate from its member states in the near future
in order to negotiate on a new agreement with Armenia.
The EU Commissioner stated it at the joint press conference with
Armenian Foreign Minister Edward Nalbandian in Yerevan.
According to Johannes Hahn, "the ambitious agreement the EU is going
to negotiate over will testify to this commitment."
"EU and Armenia have successfully completed the joint discussion on
future cooperation frameworks and outlined the possible ways. I hope
that relying on this basis we will be able to launch negotiations on
a new agreement," said the EU Commissioner.
He positively assessed the combination of Armenia's involvement in
various integration processes.
The Commissioner also expressed satisfaction with Armenia's positive
progress towards the mobility partnership and marked out Armenia's
stable and consistent implementation of the visa facilitation and
readmission agreement as a prerequisite to start negotiations on
visa facilitation.
"Armenia can expect EU's further support to strengthen political
and social reforms, to implement visa facilitation and readmission
agreement and to enhance human rights and fundamental freedoms,"
concluded Johannes Hahn. --0--
