The fact that Russia continues to sell weapons to our potential
enemy, Azerbaijan, can not affect the Armenian-Russian relations,
says political analyst Alexander Makarov.
"Russia has certain obligations and is trying to fulfill them,"
he says.
Speaking at an international media forum called "At the Foot of Mount
Ararat" on March 19 Serzh Sargsyan answered a Russian journalist's
question about Armenia's attitude to Russia's arms sales to the
parties to the Nagorno-Karabakh conflict, given the fact that, in
contrast to Azerbaijan, Armenia is Russia's strategic partner. Mr
Sargsyan said it is a problem and the problem needs to be resolved.
Political analysts in Armenia say Armenia has many times expressed
its concerns over the sale of Russian arms to Azerbaijan, with Russia
always giving a vulnerable response.
Political analyst Sergey Minasyan says 'they [Russians] say it is
only business and cannot affect their relations with Armenia.'
Although Russia is Armenia's strategic partner, we should not forget
that Azerbaijan is also a profitable partner for Russia.
