RUSSIA TO FINANCE IMPLEMENTATION OF MAJOR AGRICULTURAL PROGRAM IN ARMENIA'S TAVUSH REGION
YEREVAN, March 23. / ARKA /. Russia will finance the implementation
of a major agricultural program in Armenia's Tavush region as part
of a UNDP developed program to help boost local rural communities,
Russian ambassador to Armenia, Ivan Volynkin, said in an interview
with Sputnik Armenia radio station.
Under a relating agreement signed in Yerevan on March 18 the Russian
Federation will provide $5 million to UNDP that will be used to finance
development projects in 45 rural communities in Tavush region, the
ambassador said.
The ambassador specified that the money will be used to build four
stations of agricultural machinery, about 90 energy- and water-saving
greenhouses, 120 hectares of new orchards and vineyards. Part of the
amount will be used also to increase the yield of fruit crops and
create 30 small modern enterprises for production of dried fruit,
cheese, canned food and wine, said Volynkin.
The project calls also for construction of three centers for collection
of agricultural products, their storage, labeling and sale.
Another part of the money will be used to send Armenian specialists
to Russia for various training courses and for reconstruction of
kindergartens, schools, community centers. -0-
